Wide Open Walls” in Sacramento Ca, August 10th – 20th 2017

Bringing the Love –Again! Few and Far Flourishes at Sacramento Wide Open Walls Art Project

Last week, Few and Far member Ursula X Young suddenly found herself sitting at a press conference amongSacramento heavyweights like Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Congresswoman Doris Matsui. She was there to talk about the value of public art and Sacramento’s upcoming Wide Open Walls. WOW916

As Mayor Steinberg eagerly pointed out, the Sacramento Mural Festival from the previous year was so successful that businesses supplied 4x the space for artists to work their magic to Wide Open Walls (August 10-20, 2017)– and Few and Far is contributing!

This ambitious project, arguably one of the largest in the nation, will involve 50 artists and 40 locations over the course of a week with the aim of bringing visual vitality to corners of the city beyond the grid, areas that could really use a little inspiration. Creators will play with themes like diversity, rising rent and sustainable city culture.

MeMe, Deity, and Ursula will be tackling a 100-foot wall with their signature style, plus a little Art Nouveau thrown in. Bringing their unique, collaborative and distinctly feminine flavor to 4301 Power Inn Road, Few and Far sees this as a natural extension of their lager mission: to educate, inspire and beautify.

Few & Far at Envision Festival Costa Rica

This years 2017 Envision Festival – Costa Rica was held at the beaches of Uvita, Costa Rica. Few and Far’s Kazilla (Miami) and Ursula X.Young (California) just returned from painting at the beautiful Envision Festival in Uvita, Costa Rica. In a sweet spot where the jungle meets the sea, each created a large solo piece (by the main Luna stage at the entrance to the Envision Gallery.) They also created a large collab intertwining their unique styles: Kazilla brought her signature rainbow prizm vision with crystals and sacred geometry, while Ursula wove in some brightly colored whimsical feminine jungle goddess energy punctuated with elements inspired by Costa Rica’s abundant wildlife and beauty. Envision Festival and Costa Rica were such a treat, and Few and Far can’t wait to get back again and paint again. Pura Vida!

Few & Far 5th Year Anniversary Block Party

June 4th, 2016 held significance and was a major milestone for Few and Far. Five years ago on that date – Meme, Founder of Few and Far, organized a massive mural project in Oakland and pulled together a group of women from all over the United States. Since then, members of Few and Far have created numerous murals across the globe, building with and empowering communities worldwide. Our collective is now comprised of 17 talented female artists that include women from Nepal to Ecuador. Every year the group gets together to celebrate that anniversary, and their hard work and achievements by creating large scale murals in different communities.

This June 4th weekend, the mural took place in Sacramento, in the alley of 24th and S streets in midtown. The Few and Far ladies were joined by10-15 other female artists from different cities and states, roughly totaling 22 muralists who painted all weekend. It was kicked off by a neighborhood block party featuring local vendors, Dj’s, and live mural painting which took place on a sizzling hot Saturday in June and was well attended by the community and neighbors. This was the 3rd Few and Far organized mural on this wall. img_3107

Meet our girl Imagine

imagine-in-action
IMAGINE
Sneha Shrestha is an artist and educator from Kathmandu, Nepal. Sneha “IMAGINE” Shrestha has established herself as Nepali artist painting in the streets meshing the Nepali alphabet with inspiration from the Boston graffiti scene. Imagine has redefined the Nepali alphabet and given it a new identity through graffiti.

Being the first to mesh American Graffiti with Nepali Alphabets, she has shown her work in several exhibitions, commissioned works and public walls around the world including Boston, Oakland, Bali, Istanbul and Miami. She has worked on projects for Trip Advisor, Red Bull and Neiman Marcus. Her works can be described as thoughtful yet irreverent pieces, marrying the beauty of an elegant script with the droll text she often incorporates into her canvases.

Sneha has been accepted to the Harvard Graduate School of Education to receive her Masters in Education.

She established Nepal’s first Children’s Art Museum to provide a creative space where children and youth can get hands-on art experience and are encouraged to express themselves creatively. Children’s Art Museum of Nepal is the first of its kind space in Nepal.
