#Sleepless in Seattle

Here is a montage of images from our mini North West tour that happened in honor of our 3rd anniversary party held in Seattle at the Bombsheller Gallery. More Here

On this beautiful sunny Seattle afternoon, participating artists… 179, Merlot, Meme, Dime, Deity, Ksra, Erin Ashford and Jenn Ponci all came together and painted a mural at Mudbay finishing within 3 hours followed by a celebration dinner and drinks. Some of the girls hadn’t seen each other for over a year! The next day the girls took Meme to a skater-built skatepark under a bridge in an industrial area of the city.

The next activity filled day had us meeting with female street-artist No Bonzo</em> from Portland, OR. Enjoying a walk in the beautiful nature of the Pacific Northwest, we followed a daisy lined trail to a hidden wall where we painted.

That night it rained heavily, but we didn’t let that spoil our nighttime fun. We did a Few and Far spellout on this trackside. photo

In the morning it was all about preparing for our 3rd Anniversary art show later that evening. Our nails were done by MaryJane Cha at TopCoat. We also had our hair styled and make-up done.

Rushed into the party bus we arrived in style to the show.

After a crazy night of festivities we opened our crusty eyes still wearing last nights makeup and our hair glued in the same position it was slept on. We began the journey to Canada, hoping nothing would stop us from getting into Vancouver. It worked! Our friends from the North, SONE, ENSOE, THEME, took us to paint. But really we cracked clam jokes, laughing for hours, inspired by the use of clam juice in the Bloody Mary’s.

Day 2: In Canada found us painting under a bridge, without much opportunity for good photos, but you get the idea.

After, we took some time out to visit sunbathing turtles and koi fish at a nearby gorgeous Chinese Garden. photo 1

On the World Wide GO SKATE DAY, Sone took us girls to paint and skate at his local skate park. It was a beautiful place surrounded by bright green trees. We had a great time painting and headed home.

Hi-Technique: Beyond The Glass Wall

Art show recap

Female street artist/skateboard collective called Few and Far; a Few talented and dedicated painters spread Far across the country. Their west coast members planned to road trip north this summer with Seattle as the one of their destinations, so of course something big had to happen here. That’s where Bombsheller came in. We agreed to host a show for them and call it Hi-Technique: Beyond the Glass Wall, a play on our obsession with hi-tech and their ambitions to go beyond the glass walls of the gallery art world, beyond the glass wall of the male dominated graffiti community, and beyond the glass wall of the retail fashion industry.

On Wednesday june 18th, while the girls painted a mural on Mud Bay’s wall with the help of local artists John Osgood and Jonathan Wakuda, Bomb Sheller opened our doors to the Uptown Art Walk to showcase their work on our walls. This was good fun, but it was merely a preview for the grander invitation-only event set to take place Friday June 20th.

There was a DJ, bomb themed booze, a juice mixologist, and seventy pounds of food. The Few and Far members showing art that night – Dime, Deity, Meme, Merlot, and 179 — showed up with their nails painted to match their leggings. MADlines rocked an a cappella performance and didn’t miss a beat when Meme joined the stage to battle with her own rhymes! When the DJ’s set was up, we put on salsa tracks and danced. Everyone stayed an hour past the official end time.

Re-cap of Few and Far in 2013

FNF2013

Well… This was a very exciting year for us!! A lot of projects went on in 2013:
For example, We had a group art show in San Francisco. We were invited to paint large events and art festivals, We also got featured in a well known graffiti magazine called “Infamous”. We also are Working on some new videos that will be coming out soon!!. We did fun creative photo shoots with friends and F&F members.

We participated in large mural productions as a crew and separately all over the world. We even put on a skate jam with live art for youth. There were so many side projects we were a part of that we weren’t able to fit all of it in this post. To keep taps on what Few and Far is up to this year Follow us on Twitter /FB or IG @fewandfarwomen More info HERE on our work.

It’s like a jungle errr day!!

 image2

This mural was organized by Graffiti artist Meme, with help from the fellow members of the Few and Far Crew. Meme came up with the theme to help express the love we all share for animals and nature. This is a statement to bring awareness that our world is priceless and we should all work together to maintain its preciousness.

8072285153_7afc8810c3_b

The huge mural was painted in just one weekend, The Seattle girls (Hops, ksra, and Merlot) came in hot and handled things all on very minimal sleep. The artists all crammed on a couch like a doggie pile for the 2 nights. They closed their blood-shot, crusty, paint covered eyes, only to get up and do it again! “The early bird crew”.

8066320730_f1e682795d_b

With the late night painting give or take a few artist, always seem to fall on 3 suspecting characters (Reds, Meme, Agana). With them, delirium and paint fumes kick in tough. These ladies were “protecting” the equipment and paint by laughing all night, while rolling round on the ground doing pretend BBoy poses!

3365_10152119208660123_2003780892_n

Dime and baby sister Khoda came up from Oakland to paint. Dime was pregnant at the time so she cautiously painted with a mask and used only brushes, staying away from direct spraypaint contact. Meanwhile, Khoda, filled in Dimes character with spray paint to help her big sister execute.

Also, the very talented fine artist Ursula X. Young, originally from England, and now living and working in Grass Valley Ca, came from up north to paint the lovely women with animals all around her. Each woman that painted, drove or flew good distances to add their unique flavors to the project, this wall shows all their efforts to tie it all together.

Few&Far in Wynwood Miami for Art Basel 2012

Few & Far Women were asked to paint The Cigar Factory in Wynwood Art District during this year’s Art Basel; a prestigious art show containing more than 260 leading galleries from North America, Europe, Latin American, Asia, and Africa, showcasing works by more than 2,000 artists in Miami, Florida. Located in a large venue housing a beer garden, a large bus with DJ and yummy food vendors, this venue was set up by Mixed Media Collective in conjunction with Juxtapoz Magazine as one of the sponsors.

Just four days before arriving in Florida, the twelve ladies flying in from all over the US to paint this event were informed by The Cigar Factory that they had changed their mind about having their wall painted. Having their full theme and colors chosen for the large wall promised to them, the ladies were put in quite a predicament; no wall, and twelve ladies ready to fly out – work schedules had already been rearranged, airfare booked.

Strangely, The Cigar Factory decided they didn’t want “graffiti” on their wall. The Wynwood district was developed by the late Tony Goldman; the famed builder who transformed NYC’s SoHo and South Beach in Miami. It’s odd that The Cigar Factory would turn down a mural by Few & Far (a talented crew of artists using various mediums) being that much of the buildings in Wynwood are covered in artistic and tasteful graffiti – encouraged by the building owners. Not only did The Cigar Factory take back their wall, they pulled out their spray paint vendor, The Pain Yard, who would have provided the paint for the ladies wall.

Despite the setback, the Few & Far ladies would not be defeated by narrow-minded attitudes. Thanks to the awesome and dedicated people at The Mixed Media Collective, the ladies ended up with the perfect wall. Located behind The Brisky Gallery on 24th St, the ladies had the right amount of space needed to tackle their rainbow theme. Painting two levels of pieces rather than one created a beautiful sense of movement as the colors transformed from one piece to the next. The challenge of painting single-tone pieces was accepted and executed perfectly by each artist. Doing a theme such as this meant that each artist had to pay attention to the colors used by the artist next to them – and to use that same information when selecting their own colors. The wall became more than just a wall of pieces and characters – but a true collaboration.

The gallery was kind enough to supply the ladies with scaffolding, ladders, lights and even hammocks and swings for relaxing. Additionally, the buzz generated by the gallery from their highly anticipated show (featuring artists such as Alex Yanes, Kazilla, SK545, Andrea Bartos, and many more) meant that even though the ladies had lost their advertised location – they still had a constant stream of art enthusiasts, other writers, and others intrigued by their work stopping by the wall and joining the party.

Next to the wall being painted by the Few & Far ladies were the very talented artists Rone and Pia, working on their own murals. It was a great seeing the walls really come together. Professional photographer Autumn Swisher, an all-around awesome person, documented this entire experience.

In the end, despite the attempts to hold the ladies back, the Few & Far ladies rose above and busted out an AMAZING wall. They met wonderful people, caught up with old friends, and even received fan mail that was sent to the gallery for them! The ladies extend their warmest wishes and thanks to everyone at Mixed Media Collective, Brisky Gallery, The paint Yard, and all of their supporters and fans that came through and continue to show love.

As a Few & Far fan myself, I commend these ladies for their love and dedication to the art, and to each other! I’m proud to be a supporter and be involved with such an amazing crew of talented artists. Chief Editor Ashley Dwyer
